Precision Calibrated Theater

After more than fifteen years of development, Phase Technology’s engineers created a system that is capable of making any room sound like it’s the best theater in the world: the revolutionary dARTS — Digital Audio Reference Theater System.

Engineered and manufactured in Jacksonville, Florida, each dARTS speaker is software tuned in an anechoic chamber to specifications unheard of in our industry. Once installed, our advanced digital amplifier precisely calibrates the speakers’ performance to the unique acoustical characteristics of any room.

Design Philosophy

A room’s acoustic character has a dramatic effect on how sound is perceived. Even the best speakers in the world may sound awful in certain rooms, and since people first began designing modern speakers, they have struggled with this reality: Once a speaker leaves the engineering environment, all bets are off as to how it will perform in the ‘real world’.

At Phase Technology, we wanted to have control over the entire audio chain from when we first build dARTS to when it is finally installed in a customer’s house.

To achieve this, we took to the engineering lab and designed the best sounding, most dynamic, seamlessly cohesive theater system possible as our reference. We then create each successive dARTS system to flawlessly match our reference. Each driver and every system is custom-calibrated in our anechoic chamber to our demanding engineering specifications of within ½ dB of our response reference. When finished, it the most precise and precisely matched system you can buy. … Then we let it out into the world.

This is usually where all bets are off, but we wanted a way to control this part of the speaker’s performance also.

When a dARTS system is installed in a customer’s home, it goes through a proprietary, fully custom Audyssey® calibration process.

A microphone, records the sonic characteristics of the room: reflections, absorption, peaks, valleys, lulls, nulls and voids – all of it. It then takes these readings, processes them through the powerful digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities of the DP 4000 IA and creates an imprint to send to the speakers. The speakers are then able to adjust their performance, bringing them back to that exacting level we placed on them in the engineering lab.

Truly Custom Theater

Not only will dARTS be tuned specifically to the room you put it in, but thanks to an assortment of build options, you can have the dARTS system aesthetically blend into any room as well. Available in any configuration from a standard two-channel set up, to the most advanced surround-sound theater configurations (DTS:X®, Dolby Atmos®, etc.), dARTS is capable of providing any experience you desire.

DP4000 IA dARTS Amplifier

The DP4000 IA is the brain of the dARTS system. In the DP4000’s digital signal processor, we create the crossovers, time alignment, and equalization for all the drivers prior to amplification. Then the amp section provides up to 250 watts to each driver in each speaker.

dARTS Drivers

Keeping up with the high resolution of the DP4000 required an all-new design approach to woofers and tweeters.  Conventional speaker drivers held back the ultimate precision the system was capable of.

The woofers in a dARTS system are non-resonant and extremely quick, with very low energy storage. A three-layer composite woofer cone made with two-layers of glass fiber surrounding an aircraft-grade honeycomb center, make up each woofer.

Each tweeter can handle up to 250 watts of power, meaning each dARTS tweeter can play at the very high levels needed to meet our minimum spec of 105dB in the listening area.

In-Ceiling Speaker Available with any System

In-ceiling dARTS speakers allow greater placement flexibility in system installations and are perfect for Dolby Atmos theater configurations.

535 Series

Featuring 5.25” woofers, this series is designed to provide a THX reference level of 105 dB SPL in rooms ranging from 2500 cubic feet to 8000 cubic feet (for measuring speaker coverage, you need to consider the room’s volume, not just its square footage).

660 (Tower)

Will provide THX reference level SPL in up to an 18,000 cubic foot room. Systems can comprise 5, 6 or 7 channels with dual subwoofers and include towers as mains, a freestanding center channel and custom box or in-wall surrounds.
